A Wellness Escape in Bangkok: Rest, Reconnection and Time to Reset
Some journeys are about seeing somewhere new. Others are about coming back to yourself. My stay at RAKxa Wellness in Bangkok last October felt like both.

I travelled there with my cousins, and what unfolded was far more than a luxury getaway. It became a rare pause from the demands of everyday life, a chance to step away from routine and spend meaningful time together in a setting that invited rest, reflection and reconnection.
Just an hour from Bangkok airport, RAKxa feels a world away from the rush of transit lounges, traffic and the pace of the city. Bangkok is often defined by its energy, colour and constant motion, yet this retreat offers the opposite. From the moment we arrived, everything seemed to soften. The noise of daily life faded, our breathing slowed, and there was an immediate sense that this was a place where we could truly switch off.
What made the experience so memorable was sharing it with my cousins. There is something deeply comforting about being with family who have known you across the years, who understand your history, your humour and the unspoken parts of who you are. In that peaceful setting, we were able to enjoy one another’s company without distraction. We talked, laughed, reflected and simply spent time together in a way that felt increasingly rare.
RAKxa is not just a retreat in the traditional sense. It is a place where wellbeing is approached with care, thought and intention. One of the most impressive parts of the experience was how tailored it was. Each of us had a program specifically designed and customised to suit our individual needs, goals and wellbeing priorities. No two experiences felt the same. The treatments varied from medical therapies to alternative medicine, giving the retreat a depth that went well beyond the usual spa experience.
What stood out just as much was the quality of the practitioners. Each therapist specialised in their own field and brought a strong sense of skill, confidence and professionalism to what they did. There was a reassuring sense that you were in expert hands, whether you were receiving a more clinical treatment or something rooted in holistic healing. That level of care made the experience feel personal, thoughtful and genuinely effective.
Treatments and peaceful moments shaped the hours, but the real gift was the feeling of having nowhere to rush to and nothing pressing to do. In a world that so often rewards
busyness, there was something powerful in allowing rest to take priority. Time with family is often wrapped around obligations, celebrations or quick visits squeezed into busy lives. This felt different. It was deliberate time away, chosen for no other reason than to be together and to take care of ourselves. That, in itself, felt special. It gave us room not only to reconnect with each other, but also to reconnect with ourselves. There was something quietly moving about choosing this kind of trip together. It was not about ticking off sights or filling every moment. It was about slowing down, being present and recognising the importance of wellbeing. In that setting, surrounded by calm, it felt possible to let go of the pressure to keep going and instead simply be.
In a world that rarely stops, places like RAKxa offer something truly valuable. They create space to breathe, to reflect and to return renewed. Sharing that with my cousins made it even more meaningful. This is why this trip will remain forever embedded in me.
