Day 1. Sat 09 Oct: Homeport - Brisbane

Today we fly to Brisbane, beginning an exciting journey together. Upon arrival, we will transfer to our hotel, where we can relax and settle in after our travels. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay and take the evening to unwind before our adventure officially begins the following day, bright and early.

Day 2. Sun 10 Oct: Warwick - Tenterfield - Glen Innes
Departing early, we travel south into the picturesque Southern New England region. Our first stop is the fascinating Warwick Museum, where we explore displays of pioneer history, vintage vehicles and local memorabilia. We have a light lunch before continuing to Tenterfield, where a local guide shares stories of the Tenterfield Saddler and Sir Henry Parkes before travelling to Glen Innes, where we explore the Australian Standing Stones before dinner.

Day 3. Mon 11 Oct: Inverell - Moree - Lightning Ridge
This morning we journey to Inverell, stopping at its excellent Visitor Information Centre. After a cuppa, we continue to Moree for lunch at the Services Club and a visit to the Regional Military Museum. Travelling west through Collarenebri, we cross classic outback landscapes before arriving in Lightning Ridge. After check-in at our resort, we gather for dinner and prepare for the opal country experiences ahead.

Day 4. Tue 12 Oct: Lightning Ridge
Today we meet local guide Barb for a half-day orientation tour of Lightning Ridge. We explore sections of the Car Door Trails, visiting Fred Bodel’s Hut, Three Mile Flat and the Lunatic Hill Open Cut Mine. Quirky stops include the Stone Labyrinth and Beer Can House. The afternoon is free to explore opal centres and galleries, before sunset drinks at Nettleton’s First Shaft Lookout.

Day 5. Wed 13 Oct Lightning Ridge
After breakfast, we visit the Chambers of the Black Hand, a century-old underground mine featuring intricate sandstone carvings. Back in town, there is time for lunch before visiting the historical reserve. Later, we enjoy a visit to Amigo’s Castle and hear its remarkable story. The afternoon offers time to relax in the Lightning Ridge Bore Baths before dinner.

Day 6. Thu 14 Oct: Lightning Ridge - St George
We travel from the Queensland border to St George, stopping in Dirranbandi for a relaxing break at the Railway Park. Enjoy time to purchase a cuppa from the local bakery or café (own expense), followed by a stroll along the Beersheba Memorial, commemorating those who served in the Great War and their horses. Continuing on to St George, we visit Riversands Wines for cellar door tastings, a vineyard talk and lunch at the Garden Café. Later, we meet a local cotton farmer and visit the Unique Egg before checking into our accommodation.

Day 7. Fri 15 Oct: St George - Dalby - Toowoomba - Homeport
Our final day begins with breakfast before travelling east. We stop for morning tea at the Moonie Crossroads Hotel and continue to Dalby Pioneer Park Museum for a self-guided visit and lunch, before heading to the Brisbane Airport for our flight home with wonderful memories.
