Adelaide to the Red Centre Tour

FLIGHT DETAILS: Homeport - Adelaide (flight details upon request) Our 11-day Red Centre adventure begins in Adelaide, travelling into South Australia’s premier wine region, the Barossa Valley. Soak up rolling vineyard landscapes on the drive north before arriving at historic Seppeltsfield Estate for a memorable Barossa-style long-table lunch showcasing regional produce. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes Grand Insight Tour through atmospheric cellar spaces, learning about the pioneering families who shaped the region’s winemaking traditions. This evening, unwind among the vines and experience the warm hospitality that defines the Barossa before settling in for the night.

Depart the vineyards of the Barossa and journey north through changing landscapes toward Port Augusta. En route, stop in the historic railway township of Quorn, home to the iconic Pichi Richi Railway, before continuing through picturesque country to the Jeff Morgan Gallery. Arrive in Port Augusta and visit the engaging Wadlata Outback Centre, gaining insight into the region’s exploration history, Aboriginal culture and pioneering outback past. We settle into our accommodation, ready for tomorrow’s coastal adventure along the Eyre Peninsula.

Today we venture to Whyalla on the Eyre Peninsula for a full day of coastal exploration. Visit the fascinating Whyalla Maritime Museum to discover the region’s shipbuilding heritage before enjoying a relaxed waterfront lunch overlooking the Spencer Gulf. Continue to Point Lowly, where, seasonal conditions permitting, we may witness the extraordinary giant cuttlefish aggregation, one of Australia’s most unique marine spectacles. Take time to explore the rugged coastline before returning to Port Augusta.

Travel north into the vast South Australian outback, beginning with a visit to the intriguing Woomera Heritage Museum and Missile Park. Continue through changing desert landscapes, stopping at the shimmering salt expanse of Lake Hart for photographs and at Glendambo Roadhouse for refreshments along the way. Arrive in Coober Pedy, the opal capital of the world, renowned for its underground living and striking lunar-like terrain shaped by decades of mining. We settle into our unique underground accommodation and enjoy dinner this evening.

Today we spend a full day discovering the unique underground world of Coober Pedy with a knowledgeable local guide. Visit a working opal mine, explore underground homes and churches, and learn how residents ingeniously adapt to extreme desert conditions. Take in sweeping panoramic views from the Big Winch 360, browse galleries along Hutchison Street, and visit iconic sites including the Dog Fence and historic cemetery. As the day winds down, gather to enjoy an unforgettable outback sunset over the surrounding lunar-like landscape.

This morning, visit the historic Old Timers Mine before continuing to Josephine’s Gallery and Kangaroo Orphanage for a close encounter with native wildlife. Travel onward to the striking Kanku Breakaways Conservation Park to witness colourful desert mesas and dramatic rock formations shaped over millions of years. Continue north, crossing the border into the Northern Territory, before arriving at Erldunda for an overnight stay at this iconic outback roadhouse, a welcome stop amid the vast surrounding desert plains.

After breakfast we journey into spectacular Watarrka National Park, home to the breathtaking Kings Canyon, taking in the ever-changing desert scenery along the way. Arrive with time to explore viewpoints around the towering canyon rim, marvelling at its ancient sandstone walls and rugged beauty. As the sun begins to set, watch the canyon’s dramatic formations glow in rich red and orange hues, a truly memorable outback moment. Settle into our resort accommodation this evening, ready for tomorrow’s full day of exploration.

Today is dedicated entirely to exploring magnificent Kings Canyon. Choose a guided walk suited to our own fitness level, from the rim walk to gentler options, and discover towering cliffs, ancient rock formations and hidden waterholes such as the beautiful Garden of Eden. Learn about the deep cultural significance of this landscape to Traditional Owners, along with the region’s unique flora and fauna. Enjoy a relaxed evening back at the resort, reflecting on the day’s incredible desert scenery.

We travel south toward Yulara today, the gateway to Uluru, through evolving desert landscapes. Witness our first breathtaking views of this iconic sandstone monolith rising from the surrounding plains, and begin learning about its deep cultural and spiritual significance to the Anangu people. Arrive in Yulara with time to relax, explore the resort village and settle in ahead of two full days discovering Uluru and Kata Tjuta, and soaking up the Red Centre’s remarkable colours and atmosphere.

Explore the true highlights of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park today. Visit the Cultural Centre for deeper insight into Anangu culture and Tjukurpa before joining a guided base walk around magnificent Uluru. Continue to Kata Tjuta to admire its immense ancient domes and hear the stories of Country. This evening, experience the spectacular Field of Light installation, including a memorable dinner under the stars accompanied by a mesmerising desert light display across the surrounding landscape.

After a final breakfast, we transfer to Ayers Rock Airport for our onward flight home.
