Day 1. Fri 30 Oct: Homeport - Hanoi
Our exciting journey to Vietnam begins as we depart Australia, flying toward the country’s captivating capital, Hanoi. On arrival, we are warmly greeted by our friendly local guide, who escorts us to our centrally located hotel. This evening we enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional Vietnamese restaurant.

Day 2. Sun 29 Nov: Hanoi City Sights & Cyclo Experience
Today we explore the highlights of Hanoi, starting with the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (subject to opening hours), the Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House, and the One Pillar Pagoda. We continue on to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first national university. After lunch at a local restaurant, we hop aboard traditional cyclos for a ride through the Old Quarter. Later, we visit Ngoc Son Temple on Hoan Kiem Lake and conclude with a Water Puppet Show, offering insight into Vietnamese folklore

Day 3. Mon 30 Nov: Hanoi – Ninh Binh – Tam Coc
Depart Hanoi for Ninh Binh, a region of stunning limestone peaks and ancient history. Visit Hoa Lu, the former 11thcentury capital, and admire temples dedicated to the Dinh and Le dynasties. After lunch, we enjoy a peaceful sampan cruise through Tam Coc’s breathtaking “three caves,” often described as “Halong Bay on land”. Glide along the Ngo Dong River past rice fields and dramatic karst scenery, soaking in the natural beauty.

Day 4. Tue 01 Dec: Ninh Binh – Halong Bay Cruise
Travel through the Red River Delta to Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage treasure. On arrival, we board our traditional Indochina-style cruise for an unforgettable overnight journey among its magnificent limestone islands. Explore hidden grottoes, relax on deck, and take in the spectacular seascape. As the sun sets, enjoy a delicious seafood dinner onboard while anchored in a tranquil bay - an enchanting evening on the water.

Day 5. Wed 02 Dec: Halong Bay – Hanoi – Flight to Hue
Wake early to take in the serene beauty of Halong Bay or join a Tai Chi session on the sundeck. After a light breakfast, the cruise continues through the spectacular limestone formations before we enjoy brunch on board. Disembark and travel to Hanoi Airport for our flight to Hue. On arrival, transfer to our hotel and relax before dining at a local restaurant this evening.

Day 6. Thu 03 Dec: Hue & Cooking Experience
Today we explore the heritage of Hue, Vietnam’s former imperial capital. Visit the grand Imperial Citadel and the peaceful Tomb of Emperor Tu Duc. After lunch, continue to the Thien Mu Pagoda, overlooking the Perfume River. Later, board a traditional dragon boat for a scenic cruise to Thuy Bieu Eco Village, where we browse the local market and take part in a hands-on Vietnamese cooking class.

Day 7. Fri 04 Dec: Hue – Hoi An Walking Tour
This morning we travel south to Hoi An, passing along the picturesque Hai Van Pass with stunning coastal views. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before checking into our hotel. In the afternoon, join a guided walking tour of Hoi An’s charming Ancient Town, visiting the Japanese Covered Bridge, traditional merchant houses, and historic temples. Stroll through lantern-lined streets and explore the lively riverside market.

Day 8. Sat 05 Dec: Tra Que Village & Cooking Class
Immerse yourself in local life at Tra Que Vegetable Village, famous for its fragrant herbs and traditional farming methods. Take a leisurely walk through lush gardens, enjoy a relaxing herbal foot massage, and join a fun cooking class preparing classic dishes such as Banh Xeo and spring rolls. After savouring your creations, return to Hoi An for free time before dinner.

Day 9. Sun 06 Dec: Hoi An – Day at Leisure
Today is yours to enjoy at leisure. Wander Hoi An’s beautiful old streets, browse the boutique shops, or visit one of the town’s talented tailors for a custom-made outfit. Alternatively, relax at the beach or by your hotel pool. Take time to soak in the charm and atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage town at your own pace.

Day 10. Mon 07 Dec: Hoi An – Flight to Saigon & City Tour
After breakfast, transfer to Danang Airport for our flight to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). On arrival, we explore the city’s highlights including the elegant Notre Dame Cathedral, the historic Central Post Office, and the fascinating War Remnants Museum. Later, check into our hotel before enjoying dinner at a local restaurant, where we experience Saigon’s vibrant culinary scene.

Day 11. Tue 08 Dec: Cu Chi Tunnels Excursion
Today we explore Vietnam’s wartime legacy with a visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels, a remarkable underground network used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. Travelling from bustling Ho Chi Minh City to the peaceful Cu Chi district, we witness a scenic shift from city to countryside. At the tunnels, gain insight into guerrilla tactics, booby traps, and survival ingenuity. A short documentary sets the scene, before experiencing the narrow passageways first-hand. Afterwards, we enjoy lunch before returning to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure.

Day 12. Wed 09 Dec: Mekong Delta – Mekong Lodge
Depart bustling Saigon for the tranquil Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s “rice bowl.” Travel by boat from Cai Be to the riverside Mekong Lodge, an eco-friendly retreat set amid tropical gardens. In the afternoon, take a leisurely village walk to meet local residents and learn about traditional life along the Delta. Later, enjoy a hands-on cooking demonstration featuring delicious regional specialities.

Day 13. Thu 10 Dec: Cai Be Market & Tan Phong Island
After breakfast, cruise to visit the colourful Cai Be Floating Market, where local traders sell fresh produce from their boats. Continue to Tan Phong Island, where we enjoy fruit tastings, listen to traditional music, and visit family-run workshops making handicrafts. Return to the lodge for lunch and some free time before an evening fruit-carving demonstration and dinner.

Day 14. Fri 11 Dec: Return to Saigon
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before travelling by boat back to Cai Be. From here, we return to Saigon by coach. The afternoon is free for shopping, relaxing, or enjoying a final coffee at one of the city’s charming cafés. This evening, we celebrate our wonderful Vietnamese journey with a special farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 15/16. Sat 12 Dec: Saigon – Departure to Homeport
After breakfast, you will have free time before the transfer to the airport for your return flight to Australia. On the journey home you can reflect on the many incredible experiences shared during our adventure through Vietnam as we bid farewell to this beautiful country. Arrive home in Australia on Sunday 13 December following your overnight flight, filled with wonderful memories and lasting friendships from our 16-day journey discovering The Essence of Vietnam with Trade Travel.
