Day 1. Fri 7 Mar: Homeport - Adelaide

Our journey begins today with our flight to Adelaide. On arrival we are met by our local coach captain and begin our Sights Tour of Adelaide, before then transferring to the Grand Chancellor for check-in, then time to freshen up before enjoying a delightful dinner.

Day 2. Sat 8 Mar: The Barossa Valley Gourmet Trail
Our day today will be spent across in the beautiful Barossa Valley with two special visits to Maggie Beers Farm Shop and also the Penfolds Barossa Cellar Door, home of the famous Grange, arguably Australia’s most celebrated wine. At Maggie Beers we enjoy a brief talk on the history of the property and Maggie’s culinary career plus spend some time in the gourmet gift shop. Up at Penfolds Cellar Door we get to experience a piece of Penfolds history. We then visit the historic Seppeltsfield Estate for a delicious ‘Barossa Style Lunch’ followed by a ‘Grand Insight Tour and Tastings’, which includes a behind the scenes look through the estate’s treasure trove of historical buildings. After a delightful day in the Barossa we return to our hotel to relax before dinner.

Day 3. Sun 9 Mar: Hahndorf - Goolwa - Victor Harbor
After check out this morning we head up into the Adelaide Hills to Mt Lofty Summit Lookout which provides us with amazing panoramic views across the city of Adelaide and its seaside suburbs. We then tour the Cedars, home and grounds of famed 20th-century landscape painter Hans Heysen. Next stop is in Australia’s oldest surviving German Village, Hahndorf, with free time to roam the historic village shopping precinct. Down in the historic Murray River Port of Goolwa, we board our 2.45pm scenic rail journey onboard the Cockle Train and travel along the oldest steel railed railway in Australia, dating back to 1854 which takes us along the top of the coastal cliffs to experience the most picturesque coastal scenery on the Fleurieu Peninsula. After disembarking in Victor Harbor we travel across to Normanville to check in at the Lady Bay Resort, our home for the next two nights. We have time to freshen up before gathering for dinner.

Day 4. Mon 10 Mar: Victor Harbor - Goolwa - Murray Mouth Cruise
After breakfast we head across to the Murray River Port of Goolwa to board our Spirit of the Coorong Murray Mouth Cruise. Our informative cruise takes us towards the Goolwa Barrage, through the lock chamber and down to sea level before meandering along the waterways of the Coorong, as we follow the last few kilometres of the mighty Murray River to the Murray Mouth and its opening to the Southern Ocean. Following our cruise, we return to Victor Harbor and enjoy some free time along the waterfront precinct to purchase some refreshments before taking a look inside the National Trust Museum. Those wishing can catch a ride on the Horsedrawn Tram at own cost along the Causeway to Granite Island. Later in the afternoon we arrive back at our accommodation and enjoy some time to relax before dinner.

Day 5. Tues 11 Mar: Cape Jervis - Kangaroo Island
Today we travel down to Cape Jervis to board the 9.00am Kangaroo Island Sea Link Ferry for our crossing to Kangaroo Island. After our arrival in Penneshaw we begin our adventure of the Island as we make our way to the Raptor Domain and Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park. Here we step inside the KI Wildlife Park for our ‘Interactive Experience’, which allows us to experience the park at our own pace and leisure. Enjoy a 15-minute koala talk and interaction with the experienced staff, and hand feed the kangaroos and wallabies. Following our own light lunch, we step inside the Raptor Domain for the 2.30pm Free Flight Birds of Prey Display, see the cockatoos fly throughout the crowd, spot the camouflaged tawny frogmouths and volunteer holding a range of birds including owls, meet wedge-tailed eagles and learn how everyone can help care for and save these incredible birds. This afternoon we travel down to the Seal Bay Conservation Park, the only place in the world where we can stroll with our guide through a wild seal colony. Across in Kingscote we check in for our 2-night stay before gathering for dinner in the restaurant.

Day 6. Wed 12 Mar: Kangaroo Island
Another wonderful day begins as we head down to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Oil Distillery where incredibly, the process operates exactly as it did in the 1890’s. After our tour and cuppa, we continue down to the magnificent Flinders Chase National Park which is recovering naturally following the January 2020 bushfires which burnt 96 per cent of the park. The park is home to the Cape du Couedic Lighthouse and keeper’s residences, New Zealand Fur Seals, Admirals Arc and Weirs Cove plus the spectacular Remarkable Rocks. Inside the new state-of-the-art Flinders Chase National Park Visitors Centre, built with a $19.5 million investment after the devastating 2019–20 bushfires, we enjoy a light lunch from the cafe and view the stunning interpretation gallery that connects visitors with the park through the fusion of science and art. Our last stop for the day is at Clifford’s Honey Farm where we learn about the Ligurian Bees, their breeding and the production of the pure honey. We also get to taste the different honey varieties and enjoy some of Jenny’s famous honey ice cream. On our return we enjoy a quick drive around Kingscote taking in the sites such as Reeves Point, Old Mulberry Tree, The Jetty, Silo Mural and Hope Cottage. We then arrive back at our accommodation to freshen up before dinner.

Day 7. Thur 13 Mar: Kangaroo Island - Mount Gambier
After an early breakfast and checkout we head back down to Penneshaw where we check in and board the 8.30am Kangaroo Island Sea Link Ferry for our return journey to Cape Jervis. After disembarking we head up to Strathalbyn for a cuppa and comfort stop before heading down to Coonalpyn. On arrival we view the Coonalpyn Silo Murals ‘Hope for the Future’ before lunch at the Silo Cafe. From Coonalpyn we continue onto Mount Gambier to our motel for check in, rest and freshen up before dinner.

Day 8. Fri 14 Mar: Mount Gambier - Warrnambool
This morning after checkout, we take a look out over the intense deep turquoise blue waters of the iconic Blue Lake which occupies one of the craters of the extinct volcano after which the city has been named. We also stop by the Umpherston Sinkhole (or the Sunken Garden) which is one of the most spectacular gardens in the region. The kiosk on site offers refreshments, tea/coffee and snacks to purchase before our drive across to Warrnambool. As we cross the SA/Vic border just out of Mt Gambier be sure to wind our watches forward by 30 minutes. On arrival in Warrnambool we check into our hotel to refresh before enjoying an early dinner at the hotel. This evening we travel to Flagstaff Hill to witness the Tales of the Shipwreck Coast Sound and Light Show. We embark on the journey that resulted in one of Australia’s most infamous maritime disasters as we experience Tales of the Shipwreck Coast, an enthralling journey of discovery, tragedy, illusion and intrigue.

Day 9. Sat 15 Mar: Great Ocean Road
After an early check out we begin one of the world’s most famous drives as we travel the Great Ocean Road, winding its way along one of Australia’s most spectacular coastlines. Down in the Port Campbell National Park we stop by the London Bridge and Loch Ard Gorge Lookouts before arriving at the Twelve Apostles Visitors Centre, where pathways lead to the Twelve Apostles and Gibson Steps Lookouts. Refreshments can be purchased in the Twelve Apostles Visitors Centre Kiosk before travelling up through the Otway Ranges and down to Apollo Bay to Lorne. We step inside the Lorne Visitors Centre where the story on the construction of the Great Ocean Road captures a unique time in the history of Australia and the world. More than 3000 returned soldiers built the road from 1919 onwards, conquering steep cliffs, rugged terrain and dangerous weather. Our last stop for the day will be at the Great Ocean Road Arch and Statue that commemorates the work of returned WWI soldiers who built the Great Ocean Road. We then pass through Aireys Inlet and make our way into Geelong to check in and freshen up before dinner.

Day 10. Sun 16 Mar: Q Train
After breakfast, we take a look through The National Wool Museum which tells the Australian story of wool, fibre and textiles, alongside a range of contemporary exhibitions. It’s then all aboard Geelong’s famous Q Train for our rail journey down along the Bellarine Peninsula between the Drysdale and Queenscliff stations. Enjoy the best produce and beverages from Geelong, Bellarine and the Otways which is incorporated into our delicious degustation menu. After our wonderful rail journey, we travel back to our accommodation to relax and freshen up before our farewell dinner.

Day 11. Mon 17 Mar: Geelong - Werribee - Homeport
Our last day begins up at Werribee Park, home to the stunning Victoria State Rose Garden, with over 5000 roses across 5 hectares. Next door is the Werribee Park Mansion where we enjoy a light lunch and tour. Our 11 day adventure now complete, we make our way to Melbourne Airport for check in and flight home after our wonderful tour experience with Trade Travel.
