Day 1. Fri 5 Nov: Homeport - Adelaide - Mannum - Murray Princess
FLIGHT DETAILS: Homeport to Adelaide (flights to be advised)
After our flight to Adelaide, we meet our Tour Host and Coach Captain then enjoy refreshments at the Atura Hotel before heading to Mannum, the birthplace of Murray River trade. Mid-afternoon, we board the PS Murray Princess and settle into our outside cabins. As we cruise downstream to our overnight mooring at Murray Bridge, keep an eye out for kangaroos and other wildlife while enjoying dinner and music from our on-board entertainer.
Daily: Lunch & Dinner
Day 2. Sat 6 Nov: Murray Princess
In 1879 the first bridge to span the Murray River was built at Edwards Crossing, which quickly became the bustling township of Murray Bridge. After a hearty breakfast, choose to explore the town’s historic landmarks and local attractions, such as the Roundhouse. Back on board in the Sturt Dining Room, enjoy a special presentation on the bounty of food and wine produced in the Riverland. This afternoon, we continue our journey upriver and tonight we moor at Salt Bush Flat. After dinner, enjoy being entertained by our on-board musician. *Optional morning tour: Monarto Safari Park Wildlife Tour. Pre-bookings - additional cost.
Daily: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 3. Sun 7 Nov: Murray Princess
This morning, join a guided nature walk where our guide will share the secrets of the local flora and fauna. It’s a great way to get in a little exercise before the Murray Princess departs and cruises downriver. Near Fromms Landing, we turn and head downriver to River View Lodge (near Piggy Flat / Coolcha) where our discovery vessel awaits for a wildlife tour. Travelling in small, personalised groups, we explore the maze of the river and the birdlife is amazing. Watch for darters, herons and egrets feeding along the river’s muddy edges. The afternoon offers a choice of bocce or fishing challenges before a delicious final night dinner in the Sturt Dining Room.
Daily: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 4. Mon 8 Nov: Mannum - Loxton - Berri
We head back to Mannum and after breakfast, we reluctantly say farewell as we arrive at the Mannum Wharf. After some free time in the historic port to meander the cafés, shops and museums, we board our coach and travel across South Australia Riverland Region to Loxton. In Loxton, we tour The Pines and learn about Ella Kingdon’s family history and her gift to the community. We then travel to Berri, checking into the Berri Hotel Motel for a twonight stay. After check-in, enjoy a stroll along the Murray River before gathering for dinner in the Riverview Bistro.
Daily: Breakfast & Dinner
Day 5. Tue 9 Nov: The Riverland
We set out for a day in the Riverland, starting at Olivewood Historic Homestead and Museum, former home of Canadian Charles Chaffey, who helped establish the Renmark and Mildura Irrigation Colonies. Next, we visit the Frank Harding Collection, featuring two galleries of his paintings and illustrations, including a 3,000 square meter ceiling mural of Bushrangers and the “They Flew For The King” aircraft paintings. We enjoy lunch at the Twenty Third Street Distillery, tasting handcrafted single malt whiskey. In Paringa, we see the last operational vertical lift span bridge, Silo Art, 600-year-old Black Stump and museum before returning to our accommodation for dinner.
Daily: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 6. Wed 10 Nov: Barossa Valley Gourmet Trail
After breakfast and check-out, we begin our drive across to the Barossa Valley, along the way stopping at Waikerie for views from the Holder Bend Lookout and to admire silo art promoting “Healthy River - Healthy Community.” Our Barossa experiences include visits to Maggie Beer's Farm Shop for a talk on her culinary career, then a 'Barossa Style Lunch' at Seppeltsfield Estate, followed by a 'Grand Insight Tour and Tastings' through its historic buildings. Our last stop for the day is at the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company before checking in to our motel and then gathering for our Farewell Dinner.
Daily: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 7. Thu 11 Nov: Adelaide - Homeport
After breakfast and checkout this morning, we enjoy a little free time in Tanunda before transferring across to the Adelaide Airport to check-in for our flight back home, arriving late afternoon after our delightful week of cruising and touring through South Australia with Trade Travel.
