Day 1. Sun 04 Apr: Homeport to Sydney – Hunter Valley

Our holiday begins as we fly from our homeport to Sydney before commencing our scenic journey north into the picturesque Hunter Valley. Travelling through rolling countryside and charming regional landscapes, we pause for a comfort stop along the way. Arriving in Pokolbin, we check into the Mercure Hunter Valley Gardens, our comfortable home for the next four nights. This famous wine region is renowned for its vineyards, gourmet produce, and relaxed atmosphere.

Day 2. Mon 05 Apr: Tocal Homestead & Fighter World Museum
This morning we travel north to historic Tocal Homestead, home to one of Australia’s finest collections of colonial farm buildings dating back to the 1830s. Our guided tour includes the beautifully preserved homestead, Tocal Chapel, EA Hunt Hall, and the surrounding working farm areas. We enjoy a delicious farm-style lunch before visiting the dairy to observe the afternoon milking demonstration. Later we continue to Fighter World Museum beside the Williamtown RAAF Base. This fascinating museum showcases Australian aviation history with military aircraft displays, memorabilia, and interactive exhibits.

Day 3. Tue 06 Apr: Hunter Valley Gardens & Wine Experience
We begin our day exploring the spectacular Hunter Valley Gardens, where we enjoy a guided talk introducing the themed gardens and their unique features. We then take time to wander through the beautifully landscaped grounds at our own pace. Later, visiting the Shopping Village for browsing or refreshments. In the afternoon, we visit Greenway Wines, a boutique, family-owned vineyard set beneath the Brokenback Ranges, where we enjoy a tasting of elegant and distinctive wines. We return to our accommodation to freshen up before dinner together.

Day 4. Wed 07 Apr: Port Stephens & Stockton Sand Dunes
We travel to Port Stephens and arrive at Nelson Bay Marina, where we board a dolphin watch cruise. We enjoy the scenic harbour and keep watch for playful dolphins in their natural environment. After free time for lunch at the marina, we continue to Stockton Beach for an exciting 4WD adventure across the vast sand dunes. We learn about the area’s history, visit unique sites such as Tin City, and may even try sandboarding. We return to the Hunter Valley for a well-earned rest and dinner together.

Day 5. Thu 08 Apr: Hawkesbury River Cruise & Sydney Departure
After breakfast and check-out, we travel south to Brooklyn on the Hawkesbury River, the setting that inspired Kate Grenville’s renowned novel The Secret River. Here we board Australia’s last operating Riverboat Postman for a memorable cruise through peaceful waterways and remote river settlements accessible only by boat. As mail and supplies are delivered to isolated communities, we enjoy entertaining commentary about the river’s fascinating history and colourful residents. Morning tea and lunch are served during our relaxing cruise through this spectacular waterway. Following our cruise, we disembark at Brooklyn Wharf before continuing our journey to Sydney Airport for our return flight home after a wonderful holiday.
