Day 1: Arrive Zürich - Brig

Meet in Zürich and transfer by rail to Brig, an important junction since Roman times and the ideal starting point for your Swiss expedition. After dinner, you might like to taste a local drop at a bar in the scenic town square.

Stay: Four nights, Brig, Hotel Stockalperhof
Daily: Dinner

Day 2: Brig - Zermatt

With multiple Michelin-starred restaurants, you don’t have to look far for great food in Zermatt. Or, for something traditional, hark back to the 1970s fondue era and dive bread-first into this melted delicacy.

Did you know that Zermatt is a car-free city? It’s a good thing we travel there by train! On arrival, wander at your own pace. Perhaps walk along one of the many marked trails, stroll the city's old village or take a ride on the highest open-air rack railway in Europe, the Gornergrat Railway.

Daily: Breakfast

Day 3: Brig - Domodossola - Locarno

Head to Domodossola for a journey on the Centovalli Railway. Whisking you across sky-high viaducts, sheer cliffs and dense forests, the narrow-gauge track is the most picturesque route to Lake Maggiore. Stop briefly on the lake shore of Locarno for time at leisure.

Daily: Breakfast

Day 4: Brig - Montreux

Indulge in Switzerland's favourite chocolate, with a block of the famous Maison Cailler.

Another day, another rail adventure! Today, travel through the Swiss countryside en route to Montreux. Set at the base of the Alps, nestled on the shores of Lake Geneva and surrounded by vineyards, it’s no surprise Montreux is so appealing to travellers. Perhaps see the Freddie Mercury statue on the waterfront or make your way to Château de Chillon, a medieval castle set on a small island.

Daily: Breakfast, dinner

Day 5: Klosters

Ride the Glacier Express through the stunning landscapes of the Swiss Alps.

There really is no better way to see Switzerland than by train, a fact that becomes truly apparent aboard the Glacier Express – the world’s slowest express. Travelling in panoramic carriages, ramble through the Swiss meadows, past stone castles and across mountains. On arrival in to the small but chic village of Klosters, a walker's paradise, relax in your hotel.

Stay: Three nights, Klosters, Silvretta Parkhotel AG

Daily: Breakfast, dinner

Day 6: Klosters

A surprising picture-book town full of culture and history, Klosters is yours to explore today. With a day free, get in touch with nature on a hike through Zwergenweg Muggestutz, see historic displays at the Nutli-Huschi Folk Museum or sit back in the beautiful Botanical Garden Alpinum Schatzalp. A resort town of the famous, who will you see?

Daily: Breakfast

Day 7: Klosters - Poschiavo

Today, prepare to recross the Alps on a journey along the Bernina Railway. Snap photos as you thread in and out and around the mountain slopes. On the highest-altitude rail route in Europe, learn from experts as you enjoy stunning sights around every corner. On arrival in Poschiavo, enjoy free time. Take a walk through the town centre and soak in its dream-like atmosphere before returning to Klosters for dinner.

Daily: Breakfast, dinner

Day 8: Klosters - Depart Zürich

You'll board a train back to Zürich today to end your tour, rested and rejuvenated from the fresh Alpine air.

Daily: Breakfast
