Day 3: Rome

You’ll need all of the hours during free time today, as Rome’s charms are many. The iconic Spanish Steps are a must-visit, as is the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, which houses a sneaky museum underneath. Or, you might choose to head to the Vatican City to be amazed by the Renaissance treasures, priceless artworks and famous Michelangelo frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. There really is no wrong decision.

Day 4: Rome - Sorrento

Be sure to stop in at a pastry shop to sample some of Sorrento’s local confectioneries – it’s hard to go past the Torta Caprese chocolate-almond cake!

Today, board a high-speed train bound for Naples, before a coach takes you to Sorrento. Perched high above the Mediterranean, this seaside town of lemon groves and mermaids has been one of the most popular destinations in Italy for over two millennia. Enjoy the warm sun as you check into your hotel – just five minutes from Sorrento – before free time in the afternoon.

Day 5: Sorrento

Lose yourself in the beauty of a Sorrento sunset before finishing your evening off with a shot of limoncello.

Day 6: Amalfi Coast

Discover Italy’s most iconic shoreline as you spend the day skirting the Amalfi Coast by boat, with time in Amalfi to explore. With a skipper at the helm, bypass the crowds as you cruise past seaside villages, coves, beaches and grottoes. Should you have time, the best fashion boutiques are found along Corso Italia.

Day 7: Pompei

Today, board the Campania Express to Pompei, where a tour will lead you around this perfectly preserved city surrounding Mount Vesuvius. Dig into ancient Roman history and walk the cobblestone streets, view the excavated marketplaces, villas, temples and bath houses, and learn about the civilization that once lived here.

Day 8: Sorrento

If time permits, discover the lemon scented village of Conca dei Marini.

Make the most of your day in Sorrento. Live the high life and set sail to Capri, hike the Path of the Gods, taste a vineyard's top drop or set out to explore Salerno.
