Day 1: Arrive Lisbon

Portugal’s capital is as colourful as it is vibrant. After dinner at a local restaurant, why not take to Lisbon’s largest park – Eduardo VII Park. Its city views are fit for a king - or at least a photo or two.

Stay: Four nights, Lisbon, Exe Liberdade

Daily: Dinner

Day 2: Lisbon

At Park, a rooftop bar on a multi-storey car park in Bairro Alto, watch the sunset with your camera (and drink) at the ready – the view is spectacular.

Enjoy Lisbon like the locals do, taking an unhurried guided tour through its cobblestone streets. Explore the city’s quarters and squares, riverbank promenades, parks and boutiques before enjoying a slice of cake at a local cafe, then finishing at the aristocratic quarter of Belém.

Daily: Breakfast

Day 3: Sintra

Journey by train to the World Heritage-listed city of Sintra. Within the shadow of Dom Pedro IV’s statue, leave Rossio Station and pass vineyards, stone castles and rolling green hills before being dropped off in the heart of the city. With spare time, why not visit the fairytale-like Pena Palace or explore the town’s historic centre. You’ll then return to Lisbon in the evening for dinner at your convenience.

Daily: Breakfast

Day 4: Lisbon

Board the vintage Tram 28 and make your way up the steep roads of the Alfama district. You get the best views if you sit on the left!

Lisbon is yours to discover today. Much is still to be tasted, from pastries to seafood and the sour cherry ‘ginjinha’ liqueur. Perhaps board a ferry for an inexpensive city view, or if you prefer to escape the bustle, central Portugal’s coast and villages are all accessible by train. Maybe cap off your evening at a Fado restaurant and savour a rousing performance.

Daily: Breakfast

Day 5: Lisbon - Porto

Today you’ll hop on a train bound north for Porto. Set at the mouth of the River Douro, Portugal’s second largest city is one of the most eclectic destinations in Europe. On a tour you’ll seek out some of the city’s architectural wonders, Ribeira and Vila Nova de Gaia. After dinner this evening, maybe sample a traditional local dish, Tripas à Moda do Porto – it dates back over 500 years!

Stay: Three nights, Grande Hotel do Porto

Daily: Breakfast, dinner

Day 6: Porto – Pinhão – Régua

Taste the beauty of Portugal today during an excursion into the Douro Valley. Departing by train, you’ll sweep through scenic hills, terraced vineyards and sleepy villages. Stop in Pinhão for free time, before sampling port at a local port estate near Régua. Here, learn about the production process from the mouths of the producers themselves.

Daily: Breakfast

Day 7: Porto

The city truly unfolds itself along its waterfront. A stroll in the Ribeira quarter, with frequent stops at the Port wine cellars, is a must-do adventure of colour and flavour.

On your final day, set out to discover Porto at leisure. Why not climb the Clérigos Tower and be rewarded with a panorama of the city, or wrangle a bargain at a local market. Perhaps spark your imagination at the Livraria Lello bookstore, walk across the Dom Luis Bridge or just go with the flow – after all, you are in Porto!

Daily: Breakfast, dinner

Day 8: Depart Porto

Relaxed and refreshed, say goodbye as your adventure ends today.

Daily: Breakfast
