  1. Day 1

    Arrive London, York

Your journey begins today with your arrival in the city of London. Meet your Tour Escort and fellow travellers at London St Pancras station and board the train for the northern English city of York. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel, which is located close to the station and enjoy a Welcome Dinner this evening.

  2. Day 2

Discover much of York's long and fascinating story on a guided walking tour of its main attractions. These include the incomparable York Minster, which is one of Europe's largest and most ornate gothic cathedrals, and The Shambles, a quaint street that has remained almost unchanged since the Middle Ages.

Following this morning’s guided tour of York, you have the chance to take in the sights of this marvellous city at your own pace. The network of medieval streets offers a unique charm and is one of York's major highlights, as is the National Railway Museum (free admission). The largest of its kind in the world, the museum boasts many steam locomotives and a selection of Royal carriages. Another popular option is the Jorvik Viking Centre, which faithfully recreates York when it was capital of the Viking Kingdom. Otherwise perhaps stroll along the city walls or take in the views from Clifford's Tower.

  3. Day 3

    York, Edinburgh

This evening you will be treated to a grand Scottish banquet and traditional entertainment.

This morning after breakfast, check out of the hotel and make your way to the station to board the train for Edinburgh. Upon arrival, a taxi will transfer you to your hotel on the Royal Mile.

Stay: Two Nights, Edinburgh, The Principal George Street

  4. Day 4

Today you will enjoy a guided walking city tour of Edinburgh, taking in all the wonderful sights of the Scottish capital.

Until the late 18th century Edinburgh consisted mainly of what is now known as the Old Town, including the Royal Mile and Grass Market. Construction of the New Town was designed to attract the wealthy back to Edinburgh. The heart of the city is World Heritage-listed, with its medieval Old Town, Georgian New Town, and the award-winning modern architecture continuing the contrast between traditional and contemporary.

  5. Day 5

    Edinburgh, Inverness

This morning after breakfast, transfer to the station where you will board your train for Inverness. Inverness lies at the north end of the Great Glen where the River Ness flows into the Moray Firth on the country's east coast. Known as 'the capital of the Highlands', Inverness has been a focal point for all travel, trade and communication through the Highlands for hundreds of years. Believed to have been founded by King David in the 12th century, it is known that successive forts and castles were built in the area at about that time. Yet these were either destroyed by fire or razed during one of the many conflicts that affected and involved Inverness. The red sandstone castle that stands proudly on the River Ness was built during the 1830s, following a significant period of economic boom in Inverness and the surrounding region. Inverness Castle was designed to house the town courts and administrative buildings.

  6. Day 6

    Inverness, Fort William

Today, travel by coach past the mysterious and beautiful Loch Ness to Fort William. Check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.

  7. Day 7

    Jacobite Steam Train, Glenfinnan, Glasgow

Travel on the Jacobite Steam Tra in from Fort William. Visit the Glenfinnan Monument.

This morning you will board the Jacobite Steam Train and travel across the Highlands to Mallaig on Scotland's spectacular west coast. Pass by valleys, lochs and glens as the famous train, which was immortalised as the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films, takes you on a magical journey. Later, a coach will take you to Glasgow. On the way you will stop at the Glenfinnan Monument, which is a tribute to the brave Jacobite clansmen who fought for freedom under Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745.

  8. Day 8

    Glasgow, Liverpool

This morning, make your way to Glasgow's Central Station to board the train to Preston before coaching to Liverpool. Upon arrival check in to your hotel for a two night stay in this historic city.

  9. Day 9

This morning, after breakfast, check out of the hotel and make your way to the station for the journey to Bristol, in south west England, on the Avon River.

  10. Day 10

    Bristol, Bath

Today take a fascinating rail excursion to the historic city of Bath.

Since Roman times the beautiful city of Bath has long been revered for the health-giving properties of its natural hot springs. Set within the naturally scenic area of the River Avon valley and surrounded by hills, Bath is one of England's most romantic and best-loved spa resorts. Return to Bristol this afternoon, where you will enjoy time at leisure.

  11. Day 11

    Stonehenge, London

Stop off at the famous Stonehenge, an ancient stone monument built on the Salisbury Plain over 3,000 years ago.

This morning you leave Bristol and travel by coach to London. At the Stonehenge visitor centre, discover how neolithic people lived and see a range of the tools and objects they used for everyday life that have been excavated from the mysterious site. Upon arrival into London, enjoy the evening to explore this lively city.

  12. Day 12

This morning enjoy a private welcome to the Tower of London by a Yeoman Warder.

This afternoon is at leisure to explore England's capital further. Perhaps visit one of the many art galleries or museums, see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, visit some of the many grand churches and cathedrals, or go shopping in famous department stores and high street precincts.

  13. Day 13

    Depart London

This morning after breakfast your tour comes to an end.
