This unique tour will allow you to visit the hallowed ground of the Kokoda Track, without the need to join a trek. You will see the key sites where Australian troops forged a legend in 1942 and pay your respects to the 2000 Australians who were killed or wounded in this pivotal WW2 campaign.

Day 1 18 April Arrive Port Moresby

STAR INCLUSIONS * Welcome dinner and history presentation

Welcome to Papua New Guinea. On arrival we will be met by our Kokoda Historical Guide and taken to the Crowne Plaza Hotel. During dinner our Guide will give a detailed presentation on the battles fought in PNG during 1942. (D)

Day 2 Friday 19 April Port Moresby

STAR INCLUSIONS * Port Moresby Tour * Bomana War Cemetery

After breakfast we will begin our tour of Port Moresby, including the PNG National Memorial, National Museum, Parliament and the wreck of M.V. MacDhui. After lunch at our hotel, we will visit the Bomana War Cemetery. We will return to the hotel for free time before dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 3 Saturday 20 April Owers’ Corner – Start of the Kokoda Track

STAR INCLUSIONS * Koitaki Showgrounds * PNG Nature Park

Today we will travel along the Sogeri Highway to Owers’ Corner, the start of the Kokoda Track. Our Historian will bring to life the story of Kokoda as we look out to the Owen Stanley Range. We will then visit the Koitaki Showgrounds, the site of the infamous ‘Rabbit that Runs Speech’, before making our way to Sogeri Lodge for a buffet lunch. This afternoon we will visit the PNG Flora & Fauna Park. (B, L, D)

Day 4 Sunday 21 April Kokoda

STAR INCLUSIONS * Kokoda Memorial & Museum * 4WD along the Kokoda Track

This morning we will fly to Kokoda over the Kokoda Track, spotting Lake Myola, Brigade Hill & Isurava. We will land on the war-time air strip before making our way to the Kokoda Plateau, Bert Kienzle Museum and Kokoda Memorials. After lunch we will 4WD up the Kokoda Track and join our Historian for an optional walk before returning to Kokoda for the night. (B, L, D)

Day 5 Monday 22 April Popondetta – Gona – Sanananda

STAR INCLUSIONS * Popondetta War Memorial * Traditional Village Welcome

Today we will head north to Popondetta and the Japanese beachheads. We will stop to see Oivi & Gorari, the mighty Kumusi River and the place where the Japanese and Papuan Infantry Battalion first came into contact. After lunch we will visit the Popondetta War Memorial then Gona Beach where our Historian will bring to life the Battle of the Beachheads. Next we will board a boat to Haddy’s Village, then Sanananda where we will be treated to a traditional welcome dance before checking into Sanananda Guest House. (B, L, D,)

Day 6 Tuesday 23 April Buna

STAR INCLUSIONS * Visit Japanese bunker complex * 55/53 Battalion memorial

We will begin our day with a guided tour of Buna village. We will visit the Australian and US memorials and walk along the road depicted in the famous George Silk photograph. We will also see the last-known Japanese bunker complex before returning to Sanananda for lunch. In the afternoon we will tour Sanananda Village, taking in the 55/53 Battalion memorial, the Wirraway wreck and the Japanese hospital. We will have time to buy souvenirs at the village craft market before dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 7 Wednesday 24 April Port Moresby

STAR INCLUSIONS *Pre-Anzac Day dinner

After an early transfer to Girua airport we will return to Port Moresby and the comforts of our hotel. There will be plenty of time to relax and prepare for tomorrow’s service before an early dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 8 Thursday 25 April Anzac Dawn Service

STAR INCLUSIONS * ANZAC Dawn service *Lunch at the Yacht Club

We will rise early this morning for an emotional Anzac Dawn Service. Afterwards we will return to the hotel for breakfast and a rest. At lunchtime we will depart for the Royal Port Moresby Yacht Club where our Guide will host a very special Anzac Day luncheon. (B, L, D).

Day 9 Friday 26 April Departure

Sadly our tour ends today. We will transfer to Port Moresby International Airport for our return to Australia. (B)

In the unlikely event of price increases from our suppliers, increased taxes or a reduction in the numbers of passengers travelling to below the minimum passenger numbers, McLachlan Tours reserves the right to pass on these increases in costs to passengers. In the unlikely event that a tour fails to attract the minimum passenger numbers, the tour may be cancelled at the discretion of McLachlan Tours. McLachlan Tours may also cancel, at its discretion, any tour for operational or other reasons. If a tour is cancelled, monies already paid by passengers will be refunded or credited towards future travel. McLachlan Tours will not be responsible for any other travel arrangements affected by, or any additional costs imposed because of, our cancellation.
