Our Queensland Outback Escape tour is an all-time favourite, taking in iconic Outback locations including Charleville, Longreach, Winton and Roma. The tour includes visits to properties with airstrips, not normally available to the general public. Highlights of the Queensland Outback Escape tour include a visit to the Qantas Founders in Longreach, as well as the Waltzing Matilda and the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museums. Itinerary


Day 1: (D) Brisbane

Check into our hotel Adina Brisbane today is a free day. Welcome Dinner at Hotel.

Day 2: (B,L,D) Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, The Old Station

Early morning pick up where you will meet your National Seniors Travel Consultant, who will help load luggage and say farewell as you head to the Sunshine Coast for your Private Air Safari to begin. We begin our tour flying ‘from the Beach to the Bush’ as we follow the coastline over some of the most scenic areas, passing over the world-famous Fraser Island then on to Bundaberg. You will have time to take a tour of the Bundaberg Rum Distillery, which has been established since 1888 and learn the amazing story of the survival of this business. After lunch we fly along the coast to ‘The Old Station’ which is a 26,000-acre working Brahman cattle station owned by the Creed Family. You can take a tour of this amazing property and our accommodation is onsite in air conditioned rooms with shared amenities.

Day 3: (B,L,D) Barcaldine, Winton

After a great country-style breakfast, we depart for Barcaldine where you will visit the Australian Workers’ Museum and the famous Tree of Knowledge, the reputed birthplace of the Labor movement in Australia. We head further West to Winton and pay a visit to the Waltzing Matilda Museum. Step back in time and experience some true Australian History like the Great Shearers Strike of 1891 and the birthplace of Qantas.Our afternoon is spent stepping even further back in time as you visit the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum. The museum houses the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils. Enjoy a tour of the collection rooms and fossil laboratory.

Day 4: (B,L,D) Longreach

After Breakfast our next flight takes us to Longreach and the Qantas Founders’ Museum where you will have the opportunity to tour the Museum and go on an Airpark Tour. This will take the group through the history of Aviation and Qantas in Australia. Enjoy getting up close to some classic aircraft types including the Boeing 747, 707, DC-3 and Super Constellation. The Airpark tour is around 2 hours and you are free to enjoy the rest of the museum in your own time. As the sun sets, we will visit the Qantas Founders’ Museum again for their famous Luminescent night show, which brings the 100 years of Qantas history to life, in a Sound and Light Spectacular..

DAY 5: (B,L,D) Longreach

Our morning is spent in the town of Longreach on a town tour, which may include the Powerhouse Museum. If you have ever worked in an office, you will enjoy some of the equipment which dates circa 1908 to 1950. (Seasonal) January – March and November – December.On our April – October dates you will travel on a Cobb & Co Stagecoach Experience where you’ll ride in a restored stagecoach on an award-winning tour – first at a leisurely pace through town and then full-tilt along a stretch of the original Longreach-Windorah mail route. Hear the pounding hooves of the magnificent horses on the outback dirt road. This is an ride to remember.In the afternoon we will head out on the famous ‘Drovers Sunset Cruise’ which will have endless photo opportunities as the colours fade into starlight. Enjoy the camp-oven themed cuisine while you watch the talented musical performers entertain you through song and stories. This is a true highlight of our time in the Outback with memories to last a lifetime.

DAY 6: (B,L,D) Longreach, Charleville

After breakfast we fly to Blackall and enjoy morning tea at ‘The Lodge’ which was built in 1908 and is one of the two Heritage Listed buildings in town. We will learn about the history of The Lodge and take time to enjoy some of the local produce on offer. Our next flight is to visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service base at Charleville. Have you ever wondered whose face is on the $20 note? You will discover what a vital role this man had in the early days of the RFDS and how his legacy continues to this day – some 100 years later. We then head into town where you will find yourself ‘stepping back in time’ as you tour the famous Hotel Carones. Its construction dates to 1924 and you will be treated to a guided tour of some areas which are not seen by the general public. As the sun sets, you will travel to the Cosmos Centre to do a bit of star-gazing and learn some amazing facts about our Solar System. On a moonless night you can see the Milky Way in all its glory. You will then return to relax in one of the hotel rooms at the Caronas for the night, you may even stay in a room that has had Royalty sleeping in it!

DAY 7: (B,L,D) Charleville, Roma

Departing Charleville we head East to Roma, where Natural Gas was first discovered, to visit The Big Rig Museum and learn more about Australia’s natural resource industry. After lunch we may have the opportunity to fly to a private sheep farming property which came into existence in 1841. To arrive at Jimbour House today is to arrive at a place where history, grandeur and graciousness are blended harmoniously. You can take a guided tour of the property and share in Devonshire Tea before we return to the Sunshine Coast.
