Itinerary

Free day interstate guest

Interstate guest arrive into Adelaide this is a free day and breakfast is included for the next day.

Day 1: (D) Adelaide To The Murray River

Welcome to our Murray Princess, Adelaide Hills & Barossa tour. Departing from Adelaide our coach will be waiting to meet us and we make our way to Mannum, and board the Murray River Princess for our 4-night Outback Heritage Cruise. Once we have checked into our cabins we disembark and head upriver to enjoy our Welcome Dinner. As we cruise under floodlight to our overnight mooring at Caurnamont, you may see nocturnal wildlife on the riverbank. Watch for kangaroos, hairy-nosed wombats, tortoises, egrets and many other species. Our on-board entertainer provides music for the night owls.

Day 2: (BLD) Blanchetown and Burke Salter Winery

Daybreak and time for the keen photographers to be out to capture the special light and the morning movement of wildlife. Prolific birdlife includes pelicans, wrens and swans. Enjoy a leisurely morning and lunch cruising upriver to Blanchetown through one of 13 locks which maintain the flow and levels of water. This afternoon we moor opposite to the township of Blanchetown for our overnight anchorage. As the last rays of the sun fade, we join a guided tour of Burk Salter Boutique Winery and surrounding vineyard and enjoy wine tasting at the cellar door which is fitted out with beautiful red gum bars. Another relaxing day on the river.

Day 3: (BLD) Swan Reach

After breakfast we cruise downriver to picturesque Swan Reach. The town was first settled in the 1850s, was originally the largest of five sheep and cattle stations in the area and is now home to native flower and fruit growers. The original Swan Reach homestead is now the Swan Reach Hotel where we have some free time here. Join the guided walking tour and visit the Swan Reach Museum (gold coin donation at entry). We cruise downriver after lunch and take in the tranquility as the landscape slides by. When we arrive at Sunnydale, it’s all ashore for the Woolshed Show as we recreate typical Australian woolshed history. Later we visit the Native Wildlife Shelter where some of South Australia’s most interesting native animals are cared for. And then of course, there is the great Aussie Barbecue – cooked and served in a bush setting on the banks of the mighty Murray River. An optional Nocturnal tour (additional cost TBA) in a comfortable purpose built cart is available after dinner where we may see kangaroos, wombats, foxes, bats and owls.

DAY 4: (B,L,D) Ngaut Ngaut and Younghusband

After an optional early morning Bush Tucker Breakfast (additional cost TBA) or a bush walk with the Captain, the vessel cruises slowly downriver past magnificent cliffs scoured by the river over millions of years. We reach Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve, one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites, for a step back in time – tens of thousands of years – for a guided boardwalk tour to view ancient rock carvings and to learn about Aboriginal history in the area. We return to the vessel to cruise downriver to Younghusband. Tonight the Captain and his officers host a spectacular Farewell Captain’s Buffet Dinner. Dress up and dance, if you wish

DAY 5: (B,D) Mannum, Monarto and Hahndorf

We leave Younghusband and head back to Mannum. After breakfast we reluctantly say farewell as we arrive at the Mannum Wharf. From here we head off to the nearby Monarto Zoo - a free range sanctuary. A guide will join us on the coach for a safari tour experience of the park. The zoo plays a major role, nationally and internationally, in breeding programs for rare and endangered species. We Have lunch (passengers’ own expense) and this afternoon arrive in the Adelaide Hills where we stop at the Beerenberg Strawberry Farm. We will have the opportunity to purchase from their gift range and the large range of delicious preserves. You may not know but Beerenberg products can now be found in 24 countries, on major airlines and in more than 300 hotels! Our day concludes as we arrive in Hahndorf and check into our motel for the final nights of our tour.

DAY 6: (B) Barossa

Today we will spend the day exploring The Barossa Valley. From Hahndorf we pass through the small towns of Woodside and Lyndoch to arrive at the Jacobs Creek Cellar Door and Visitor Centre. We have a group wine tasting and morning tea here before heading into Tanunda for some free time to take a walk and purchase lunch (passengers own expense). We then head to our last stop for the day, the iconic Seppeltsfield Winery. The winery was established in 1851 and despite a severe economic depression for the wine industry generally in the 1870s, Seppelts continued to expand and a new winery was built in 1888. Today it is one of the most famous wineries in Australia. We will embark on a tour of the gardens, grounds and heritage buildings then drive back to Hahndorf and have a free evening to head out for dinner.

Day 7: (B,D) Adelaide City Sights

We have some free time this morning to take a look through the main street of Hahndorf before heading into Adelaide. Along the way we make a stop at Mount Lofty Summit for some stunning views over the city and the Gulf St Vincent. On arrival in Adelaide, we have some free time to purchase lunch in Rundle Mall, then we welcome a local guide on-board the coach for a tour around Adelaide. For our final visit for the day, we head to the South Australian Migration Museum. Opened in 1986 the Migration Museum in Adelaide was a world first. It predated the Immigration Museum in Melbourne and the Ellis Island Museum in the United States. Several museums focussed on migration have since opened around the world. The Migration Museum preserves, documents and interprets the cultural diversity of the people of South Australia.

Day 8: (B) Heading Home

We enjoy our last breakfast together, complete our check out procedures and load our bags onto the coach for our transfer to the Adelaide airport.
